TempInbox is a free option for manual signup testing when you need working receiving addresses without using your personal mailbox. It supports up to 3 browser-saved inboxes. There is no universal best established here: choose based on whether the form accepts the address, the receiving workflow, and the recovery needs of the account.

You can test several synthetic accounts without your personal email, but they still use real receiving addresses. A made-up string with email syntax does not provide a mailbox. Unattended or bulk signup testing needs a documented API-capable provider or a capture service you operate.

How do I test signup with a temporary address?

Create a receiving inbox, submit its address to the test application, inspect the matching message, and verify the account-state change.

  1. Choose a non-production environment and synthetic account data.
  2. Create a TempInbox inbox and record its recipient beside the case name.
  3. Submit the address in a form that permits temporary email.
  4. Confirm that the application accepted the signup and queued the expected message.
  5. Check recipient, sender, subject, and the correct code or link.
  6. Complete verification and assert the intended account becomes verified.

Do not treat message arrival as the final result. Test a wrong-account code, expired link, duplicate click, and resend behavior against your application's rules. TempInbox is receive-only; a verification requiring an email reply needs another tool.

How can I test multiple account signups?

Use distinct recipients for independent cases and keep their mapping in your test notes. Up to 3 browser-saved inboxes can separate active signup, resend or failure cases, and a second persona for invites.

LaneUseIsolation rule
SignupHappy path and initial onboardingCheck this account's exact recipient
Failure or resendExpiry, cooldown, and invalid-code behaviorIdentify which action issued each code
Another personaInvites or another manual registrationDo not mix account sessions or links

Retire completed cases before adding new ones through the interface. A browser-saved limit does not authorize bypassing a site's account rules and is not an unlimited automation offer. For retry isolation in CI, use fresh provider-allocated recipients per run, worker, test, and attempt, with bounded waits and supported cleanup.

What should I do if the signup email is missing?

Check acceptance, dispatch, recipient spelling, and expected delivery before requesting another message. A rejected disposable domain may mean no mail was sent at all.

Use resend controls according to the application policy and record which code should remain valid. Do not select the latest message without confirming its recipient and action. Delivery is not guaranteed; distinguish sender-side errors from delay and receiving failures.

For test evidence, store redacted screenshots and result notes outside the temporary mailbox. Avoid logging full verification links or tokens. Track trial dates and any planned move to a durable address outside inbox history.

When should a signup use durable email instead?

Use a durable address from the start when the account will hold important data, billing, production access, or future recovery. Before turning a disposable evaluation into an account you keep, confirm the service allows an email change and verify the new address; migration is not supported universally.

TempInbox access uses a token saved in your browser profile, with no inbox passwords or cross-device recovery. Anyone controlling that profile can use its access, and clearing storage can lose it. Message retention is unspecified, so saved access is not an assurance that later messages or old codes remain available.

There are no custom domains or supported public API. Team handoffs, replies, controlled domains, and unattended workflows require different supported tools. Keep the three-inbox model focused on short-lived manual work.
